we want to read and publish your work! we accept submissions from creatives of all ages and locations. we're particularly interested in the work of emerging writers and artists, so be sure to tell us if this will be your first publication!

our issues don’t have themes, but please keep in mind the mission of our magazine: a movement beyond the chaos of earth. consider daydreams, magical realism, wild color, things that make you breathe more deeply, strong emotion of any sort. ultimately, we want stunningly crafted work that surrounds the reader completely.

general guidelines

we accept almost anything! poetry, short stories, flash fiction, short plays, streams-of-consciousness, photography, digital and traditional art, playlists, and any other creative work you have! send us an email if you have a unique idea.
to submit for our quarterly online issues, send an email to nightshiningmagazine@gmail.com
- put Issue Submission, Your Name as the subject
- tell us your name/ pen name, pronouns, age and location if you're comfortable, and any social media handles or websites
- tell us the genres and titles of your pieces
- include a short bio (about 50 words) to be published alongside your work
- send your work as a google doc, .docx, or copied into the email
to submit for a feature on our instagram, tag @nightshiningmag or use the hashtag #nightshiningmag when you post your work! you can also email us if that is easier for you or if there is any other information you'd like us to know! please designate Social Media Submission in the subject line.
by submitting, you acknowledge that:
- anything submitted is your own original work
- any people depicted in photographs or art have given their consent to publication
- you will grant us first serial rights to publish your work on our website and social media, though the copyright will remain with you
simultaneous submissions are perfectly fine, as long as you let us know in your email and inform us promptly if your work is published elsewhere.
we don’t accept work previously published by a literary magazine or website. anything posted on your social media or personal website is acceptable, though.
please no racism, homophobia, or any other discrimination or hate! you will be barred from ever working with night shining magazine.
we will try to get back to you in a week or less. after four weeks have passed, you may email us.
finally, we are not able to offer financial compensation for submissions. hopefully this will change as we grow!

poetry

send us 1-5 poems in separate documents or pasted into the body of your email.
each poem should be no longer than one page.
we love euphoric language and stunning imagery!

prose, etc.

send us 1-2 short stories, memoirs, flash fiction pieces, etc (please tell us which genre)
we prefer prose pieces to be no more than 1500 words, but send us your longer work if you feel it is truly your best.
in prose works, we love to see literary elements, beautifully constructed scenery and characters, and stories that feel like dreams.

art and photography

send us no more than 5 photographs or art pieces at one time.
for a longer photo or art series, submit 5 to 12 photos or works of art sharing a central theme or vision and include a short paragraph explaining your inspiration or ideas!
we love soft colors, collage or multimedia elements, and emotion shining from every inch.

others!

for playlists, send us (preferably) 8 to 10 songs listed in this format: "title" - artist
or suggest just a few for our issue playlist!
if there's anything else you'd like to submit, send us an email to ask! odds are, we'll find a way to publish it.
